A River of Stones: 4th January

The children sit in silent rows, the scratching of their pens the only noise. Teachers sit at the back and front of the classroom and remember their exams.

And tonight the porcine delicacy is trotters floating in a bowl full of clear soup - bizarre islands in a briny sea. I let the lazy susan to rotate them past me and use my chopsticks to pluck a piece of green pepper from the mountain on a different plate.

In a room full of wedding guests I warm myself at the rusty iron stove. Under the rust I notice the embossed design. Running horse stepping on flying swallow.
